We had another busy week at Shepherdstown! Check out the highlights below:

๐Ÿš’ Fire Prevention Week

Our students had an exciting surprise this week when Upper Allen Fire Company came to visit with their fire truck! ๐Ÿšจ Firefighters taught our Wildcats about fire safety and prevention and students loved learning about the special tools and gear firefighters use to keep people safe. Check out the pictures below.

๐Ÿฆ 1st Grade Zoo America Assembly

First graders enjoyed a special visit from Zoo America, learning all about animals and their habitats. They especially loved meeting some animal guests up close! ๐Ÿ

๐ŸŽญ 1st Grade CKLA Folktales & Fables Celebration

Our first graders at Shep wrapped up their first CKLA unit on Folktales and Fables in a fun way! Each class chose one of the fables they learned about and acted it out for their friends. After all their hard work, the whole grade came together, popcorn in hand, to enjoy watching everyoneโ€™s storytelling and acting skills shine! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿฟ

๐ŸŒฟ 2nd Grade Field Trip to the Environmental Center

Second graders explored the great outdoors on their trip to the MASD Environmental Center! Through hands-on activities and nature stations, they discovered more about plants, wildlife, and the environment around them. ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ”ฌ

๐Ÿ“… Looking Ahead at Shep

  • Monday, October 13: School is in session! Please let ShepOffice@mbgsd.org know if there are any changes in transportation. ๐ŸšŒ

  • Tuesday, October 14: School Safety Drill. As part of our annual safety procedures, we will be conducting a school safety drill this week. This required practice helps ensure that students and staff know what to do in the unlikely event of a real emergency. During the drill, classroom doors will be locked, lights will be turned off, and students will move out of sight while remaining calm and quiet. Officer Mark Sanguinito will be on site to support our staff and students as we practice these important safety steps.

  • Friday, October 17: Picture Day! ๐Ÿ“ธ Order your photos at my.lifetouch.com using the Picture Day ID EVTH67T6D.

๐Ÿ“ฑFOLLOW US!- Don't forget to follow our new Social Media pages on Facebook (shep.wildcats) and Instagram (shep.wildcats) for all things Shepherdstown! Images and happenings are being shared daily. You can also see the images in our Live Feed on our website and in the MASD app.

Have a great week!
Mr. Echelmeier

School Zone Sign

Upper Allen Police Officers have notified us that there have been an excessive amount of violations to the School Zone Speed Limit.

They are also noticing that most violations are coming from parents who are exiting Shepherdstown Elementary, traveling down the hill, and then turning left into Meadowview.

PLEASE HELP KEEP OUR STUDENTS SAFE and watch your speed in the School Zone.

First grade recently completed their unit on locomotor movements. Students successfully demonstrated their skills by taking a locomotor test and earning their โ€œlocomotor license.โ€

Second grade concluded their unit on underhand tossing, showing great improvement in aim and control.

Both first and second grades are now transitioning to a unit focused on foot-based manipulative skills. Weather permitting, students will be participating in outdoor physical education classes, engaging in a variety of soccer-related drills and activities to build coordination and teamwork.

Third grade is wrapping up their unit on health-related fitness. As part of their assessment, students completed the Pacer test and participated in a unique glow-in-the-dark flexibility activity. To conclude the unit, they will spend two days applying their skills through soccer activities. Following that, they will begin their next unit on skill-related fitness.
