Wildcats in Focus

Highlights of news, events, and celebrations from around the district.

Wildcats Around the District

Pictured top row, left to right:

  • Northside first graders wrapped up their CKLA Human Body Unit by becoming “doctors for a day,” performing hands-on “operations” to showcase their learning about the body’s circulatory, digestive, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems — and how to keep them healthy.
  • A student-made “World’s Best Bus Driver” sign — proudly displayed on the dashboard of one of our school buses.
  • Wildcats across the district wore orange in celebration of Unity Day 2025, standing together for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. We’ve never been prouder to celebrate this annual day of unity here in Mechanicsburg, where belonging and Wildcat pride shine bright.

Pictured bottom row, left to right:

  • Mechanicsburg Middle School recently hosted its 12th annual Dodge HUNGER Dodgeball Tournament, raising an incredible $6,000 to support the MMS Marketplace Food Pantry in the fight against food insecurity.
  • We had lots of Fall fun at Kindergarten Academy last week - Wildcat style, of course!

Maroon Machine Earns State Championship Title

Our MASH marching band - your Maroon Machine - captured the US Bands state championship title in their division last weekend. Their program, “The Butterfly Effect,” took home awards for Best Music, Best Visual, Best Percussion, and Best Overall Effect, and earned a final score of 96.0. Congratulations to every student-musician, director, staff member, parent, volunteer, and supporter who pushed, worked and believed.

Attendance Matters: Every Wildcat. Every Day.

Regular attendance builds the foundation for success—academically and socially. Missing just two days a month can make it harder for students to stay on track to read by third grade and graduate with their peers. Let’s start the season strong—healthy habits, good rest, and daily attendance make all the difference. We’re partnering with families to help every Wildcat show up strong this season. Watch for our Every Wildcat. Every Day. section in upcoming newsletters and on social media to learn more about the importance of student attendance.

Access to Daily Menus

We heard your feedback about paperless menus. Beginning with the December menu, each K–3 family will once again receive a printed copy.

However, to maintain federally mandated ADA compliance and allow for easy translation, monthly menus will no longer be shared as downloadable PDFs on our website or through other digital platforms (Seesaw, email, newsletters, etc). Instead, families can view fully accessible, easy-to-translate digital menus directly on the district website or in the mobile app:

  • On the website: Go to your child’s school webpage, click Menu, then Dining. Or, from the school’s homepage, click the Dining button located just below the main photo.
  • In the app: Select your child’s school, tap More, then Dining.

Need help accessing menus?

  • Click here to watch how to access menus from a desktop.
  • Click here to watch how to access menus from the mobile app.
  • Click here to learn how to set your default school of choice in the app.

Thank you for helping us keep menus accessible and translatable for all families.

Meal Supports for Wildcat Families

As shared previously: We know that both the federal government shutdown and potential changes to government support programs have created uncertainty and added stress for many households. If your family is feeling that impact, please know that you are not alone and we are here to help.

Making sure every student has access to the nutrition they need to learn and grow is one of our top priorities. Our district offers several confidential supports for families, including free breakfast for all students, free and reduced-price school meals for eligible families, a weekend food bag program, and services through Operation Wildcat. There are numerous community supports as well. Please click here for more details on each of these programs.

For our families who are able to give, please consider supporting the local community organization of your choice, to include Operation Wildcat and any of their upcoming Projects. Click here to learn more about Operation Wildcat.

Please remember: asking for help is a sign of strength and care for your family. We want every Wildcat household to feel supported, welcomed, and connected. If you have questions or need assistance accessing any of these resources, please do not hesitate to contact your school office. We are grateful to partner with you in caring for your child.

STEM Summit Needs You!

We need your help, Wildcats! On December 9 and 10,  2025, all 9th graders will take part in the Junior Achievement STEM Summit at MASH—a hands-on day exploring science, technology, engineering, and math careers. To make this event possible, we’re looking for friendly volunteers to help run activity stations. No STEM experience or volunteer clearance is required; training, support, and a light breakfast and lunch are provided.

If your schedule permits, please click here prior to the start of Thanksgiving Break to sign up to join us in inspiring our students! Questions? Contact Shannon Baker, Senior Vice President of Program Operations, at jbaker@jascpa.org.

(Special thanks to MASH Senior Gavin Thomas for the wonderful photos from last year's STEM Summit.)

Reminder: Publicity & Media Permissions

As shared previously, MASD now uses an opt-out model for publicity permissions. This means students may be photographed or videoed by district staff or local media unless a parent/guardian completes the opt-out form in the Sapphire Parent Portal. No action is needed if you give permission for your child to be included.
