February 2026

Hello Parents and Guardians,

As we move into the month of February, it is recognized that there is much to do.  January 2026 was a month filled with many disruptions due to the calendar and the weather.  The staff at Broad Street elementary is working to consolidate some of our learning activities to maximize the experiences for our learning community.  We have many exciting things planned for our students.

Continue to ask your children what they learned in school, how they were a positive leader, and challenge them to think of ways to served the Broad Street learning community.  These discussions facilitate creativity, assist to summarize learning, and establish a priority for education.  Our collective efforts are what makes Broad Street a special place to be.  I appreciate your support and efforts as the home and school connection is essential.

I also wanted to make you aware that Mrs. Bradley will be out of the office for the month of February due to a scheduled surgery. During that time, Mrs. McCorkel and Mrs. Moreno will be covering in the office.  A reminder to everyone that a photo ID is required when picking up a student. Since our substitutes may not recognize all families right away, having your ID ready will help make the pickup process smooth and keep our students safe.

When calling or emailing the office, please be sure to include your child’s first and last name, as well as their teacher’s name. This will help us assist you more quickly.  Thank you so much for your understanding and patience. Mrs. Bradley is looking forward to seeing everyone again in March!

Thank you again for your support of our learning community.

Lessons

My whole class lessons for February will focus on career development. We will talk about how choosing a job in the future should be driven by our interests (what we like) and our skills (what we are good at doing). We will also be using a new platform called Xello which has students interact with career information in a game-like setting. 1st and 2nd grade students will "explore Career Town" and 3rd grade students will answer questions about their interests and skills. You can engage with your student at home by asking them about what jobs they might want to do in the future or even sharing about some of the jobs you wanted to do when you were their age.

Groups and Lunches

The next round of small counseling groups for self-control and relationship skills will be starting up this month. I will also have my monthly birthday lunch on February 26th, our new student lunch on February 17th, and our lunch bunch on February 6th.

Conferences

Finally, if you would like for me to be present at your Parent-Teacher conference just let me or the teacher know so we can add it to my calendar.

As always, please feel free to reach out with questions! lmandia@mbgsd.org  717-691-3328

Mobile Dentist

Attention Parents/Guardians,

Our schools have partnered with Smile Programs to offer in-school dental care through a mobile dentist service. As a reminder, all students are required by the state to have dental exams completed and submitted to the school nurse for Kindergarten or 1st grade and for 3rd grade. If your child does not have a regular dentist and has not had a dental exam yet, please consider utilizing this optional program. The dental care is usually at no cost to you. Most insurances are accepted, including Medicaid. For those without insurance, a low-cost self-pay option is available, and a grant program is also available for free service to those who qualify.

Our in-school dental program saves you time and provides a safe and comfortable place for your child to receive gentle dental care from licensed local professionals. Dental care includes a dental exam and may include x-rays, cleaning, fluoride, and sealants when necessary, and in some cases restorative care, such as fillings.

Children who see a dentist regularly may have fewer health issues like:

     *  Early tooth loss caused by dental decay
     *  Gum disease
     *  Heart disease
     *  Impaired speech development

Help keep your child healthy, in school, and learning!

If you are interested in having your child seen by the mobile dentist, please register using the link below or complete a paper registration form and return it to the school nurse. Paper permission slips/registrations are due back to the school nurses by February 12, 2026.
